Introduction
The Different Types of Recreational Sea Fishing
Recreational sea fishing is divided into two categories: recreational and sport fishing.
- Sport fishing requires a license or affiliation with a national sports organization.
- The products of your fishing are strictly reserved for personal and family consumption.
You can practice recreational fishing:
- From Shore;
- From a boat or vessel;
- While swimming or diving.
The practice of Catch & Release (releasing fish alive after capture) is also encouraged.
Why Join the FMPS and the APMM?
A Clear Regulatory Framework
In the Principality of Monaco, a fishing license is not required, except for spearfishing (a declaration to the Maritime Police Division is necessary). However, specific regulations govern these practices.
The FMPS is the recognized interlocutor of the Monaco Government.
Since 2017, our mission has been to develop and organize recreational and sport fishing within a legal framework guided by Maritime Law and an ethical approach aimed at educating and raising awareness among fishers to ensure the sustainability of their hobby.
Supporting Environmental Protection
Your membership helps to defend the right to fish while working to reduce environmental impacts. Thanks to your contributions, we also fund participatory science programs in partnership with the APMM and other national and international organizations.
Concrete Example:
The regulation of fishing hours in the Solarium area, implemented in 2021 by the FMPS, demonstrates our commitment to reconciling fishing with respect for other uses.
Accessing Innovative Tools
We have developed an interactive map of authorized zones, regularly updated, offering a simple visualization of the regulations in force.
Connecting and Improving Skills
Joining our associations means becoming part of a passionate community.
With over 20 nationalities among our members, the exchanges are rich and diverse. We regularly organize events to share experiences, techniques, and tips.
Contributing to Scientific Research
Participate in our citizen science programs: monitoring marine megafauna, tagging bluefin tuna, identifying non-native species, and more.
